About the FOLD

The Festival of Literary Diversity was founded in 2014 by author Jael Richardson. In May 2016, the first festival devoted to underrepresented authors and storytellers was presented in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Since then, the festival continues to provide an important space for writers from marginalized communities to discuss their craft and the challenges involved in creating stories that ask difficult questions, expose hard truths and push literary boundaries. Register today for an individual pass, a bundle of passes, or as a school group.

The 2021 Festival of Literary Diversity pass provides access to more than 35 different events, most of which will be offered live. Once presented, all of the events will be available on-demand until the end of the month.
In addition to the festival events, passholders will be able to access our virtual exhibition hall, which features booths from nearly 20 sponsors and partners. Guests will be able to chat directly with representatives and will also be able to shop for books and limited edition festival gear.
Passholders will be able to “see” and interact with other participants and through our chat function, you can also participate in chats after events where we talk about some of the conversations that took place in the Main Hall.
In addition to all of this, the 2021 festival includes an impressive festival leaderboard where passholders can accumulate points for participating in any number of activities.
The complete schedule is available here and on our website. This year’s festival includes over 35 different events with more than 60 authors and presenters. It includes a Mood Series, Writing Workshops, Professional Development Workshops for Publishing Professionals, and Feature Events.
The FOLD virtual space will be populated with Alt-Text. It will also have the option of increasing or decreasing font size. All festival events will be live-captioned.
The virtual festival space will include a number of halls and spaces that you can enter and explore. One of the halls is the Main Auditorium, where you can enter at any time and wait for the next event to begin. When the event begins a Zoom pop up window will appear for you to watch the panel discussion, workshop, or interview. After the event, you can return to the virtual lobby and join a chat, peruse the exhibitor’s hall or check out how you’re doing on the virtual leaderboard.
When the platform opens, there will be an information desk where you can ask festival staff for more information. There will also be a technical support team that can help you troubleshoot any issues you might have logging in or using the platform.
This website is continuously updated, so bookmark fold2021.vfairs.com and keep checking as the festival approaches. For year-round updates, be sure to sign up for our newsletter at thefoldcanada.org and follow us on social media.
We know that life and time zones may make it difficult for you to participate in every event as it happens. All videos will be available until May 31 to watch and re-watch on the platform at your leisure.
The videos will be available until May 31, 2021.
The booklist for FOLD 2021 is available now. For those residing at Canadian addresses, books can be purchased through our festival partner, Another Story Bookshop. All Canadian book orders received through ASB that include a FOLD 2021 author will come with a limited edition festival book pack, which includes a program and a few other festival goodies. For festival goers in the US and the UK, please check out the FOLD account at Bookshop.
The FOLD has a Board of Directors, a Planning Team, and a Kids Festival Advisory Committee, as well as a general volunteer pool for in-person events.
